JNU Approves Promotion of 246 Faculty Members Under Career Advancement Scheme

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has recently approved the promotion of 246 faculty members under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) for the period from February 2022 to February 2026. During this time frame, the university also filled 219 faculty positions and conducted more than 400 recruitment interviews, reflecting a major effort to strengthen the academic workforce and address long-pending vacancies within the institution.

The update was officially shared late at night by the university administration through its verified social media account on X. According to the statement released by the administration, this large-scale initiative was part of a special recruitment and promotion drive launched to clear the backlog of cases that had been pending since 2006.

To ensure fairness and transparency in the process, the university administration maintained continuous communication with faculty members whose promotion applications were under review. Whenever any shortcomings or missing documentation were identified in an application, the concerned faculty members were promptly informed and given sufficient time to rectify the issues. This systematic approach helped make the promotion process more transparent, efficient, and time-bound, ensuring that deserving candidates were not delayed due to procedural gaps.

The university administration further emphasized that the present leadership—headed by one of the country’s first female Vice-Chancellors from the OBC category—has focused on strengthening inclusivity and diversity across the institution. Special attention has been given to ensuring adequate representation of candidates from OBC, SC, and ST categories during the recruitment process. According to the administration, this initiative has played an important role in promoting social justice, equal opportunity, and representation within the academic ecosystem.

Officials also stated that the successful completion of this recruitment and promotion drive marks a significant milestone for JNU, as it not only addresses long-standing administrative delays but also reinforces the university’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards. By filling crucial teaching and research positions, the university aims to further enhance its teaching quality, research output, and overall academic environment.
