Donald Trump to Sign Executive Order Banning Transgender Women from Women’s Sports

Former President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order prohibiting transgender women from participating in women’s sports. This policy will apply to individuals who were assigned male at birth and later transitioned to female. The move aligns with Trump’s campaign promise to protect women’s sports by restricting participation to biological females.

Reinforcing Gender-Based Sports Regulations

After assuming office in January, Trump emphasized that official documents would recognize gender strictly as male or female. His upcoming order is expected to interpret Title IX—originally established to promote gender equality in athletics and prevent sexual harassment in sports facilities—in a way that excludes transgender women from women’s sports.

Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace has endorsed Trump’s executive action, stating that it will ensure fairness in sports.

Potential Military Policy Changes

In addition to the sports ban, Trump may revisit policies regarding transgender individuals serving in the military. In 2017, he issued an order barring transgender recruits from enlisting in the U.S. Army. Now, a similar directive could be introduced under his new administration.

Trump’s order comes in response to policy changes made by the Biden administration in April of last year, which sought to accommodate transgender athletes. However, many Republican-led states opposed these modifications, leading to legal challenges.

With this executive action, Trump aims to reshape gender policies in both sports and the military, reinforcing his stance on defining gender based on biological sex.
