The swearing-in ceremony was held at the White House in the presence of President Donald Trump, with US Attorney General Pam Bondi administering the oath.
The White House shared photos and videos of the ceremony on its official X handle. Following her swearing-in, Gabbard met with PM Modi, who later shared images of their meeting on his X account.
PM Modi’s First Key Meeting in Washington
Upon reaching Washington, PM Modi had a warm and cordial interaction with Tulsi Gabbard. He congratulated her on assuming her new role and discussed various aspects of the India-US partnership. The meeting, which took place just hours after her swearing-in, highlighted the growing cooperation between the two nations.
PM Modi wrote on X, “Met Tulsi Gabbard in Washington and congratulated her on her appointment. She has always been a strong advocate of India-US friendship.”
The White House also shared a post on X, stating, “Tulsi Gabbard has been officially sworn in as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) by Attorney General Pam Bondi in the Oval Office.”
Gabbard’s Controversial Appointment as Intelligence Director
Tulsi Gabbard’s appointment as DNI was among the most debated selections by President Trump. Before taking office, a formal vote was conducted in the Senate, where she secured 52 votes in her favor, while 48 votes were cast against her. Republican Senator Mitch McConnell opposed her appointment. The White House later shared a video of her swearing-in ceremony on its official X account.
PM Modi’s US Visit: Strengthening India-US Ties
PM Modi is in the US on a two-day official visit at the invitation of President Donald Trump. He expressed enthusiasm about further strengthening the India-US comprehensive global strategic partnership. He emphasized that both nations will continue to collaborate for the well-being of their people and a better future for the planet.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that during this visit, PM Modi will meet President Trump, key US Cabinet members, and industry leaders.
A Grand Welcome in Washington
Upon his arrival in Washington, PM Modi received an enthusiastic welcome from the Indian diaspora. Supporters greeted him at Blair House with chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Modi-Modi”.
Expressing his gratitude, PM Modi wrote on X, “A warm welcome despite the winter chill. The Indian diaspora in Washington DC has greeted me in a truly special way. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to them.”
