Israeli-Serbian Relations: Foreign Ministers Meet in Belgrade to Discuss Strategic Dialogue
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Durić met in Belgrade to highlight the long-standing friendship and strong ties between their countries. During the meeting, they discussed launching a strategic dialogue aimed at boosting political and economic cooperation.
Durić expressed gratitude to Saar for his significant efforts in strengthening Israel-Serbia relations, calling the meeting “a historic moment” that reflects the enduring partnership between the two nations. According to a statement from the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Durić emphasized, “Relations between Serbia and Israel are rooted not only in decades of partnership but also in centuries-old friendly and brotherly ties between our peoples. These relations are built on shared values and unwavering trust.”
Serbia regards Israel as a close friend and a major strategic partner, making discussions on mutual economic and political collaboration particularly important. The meeting also focused on launching a formal strategic dialogue, intended to strengthen economic relations through interdepartmental cooperation and the creation of a joint economic committee. Durić noted, “Israel’s economy is one of the most dynamic and innovative globally, while Serbia’s economy is among the fastest-growing in the region. Over the past decade, we have doubled our GDP.”
The Serbian Foreign Minister also highlighted shared perspectives on historical matters, including the Holocaust, respect for the Jewish community, protection of cultural heritage, and preservation of sites where Jews suffered persecution. He added, “This is an issue that Serbia has always prioritized and will continue to do so. Both our countries are committed to preventing attempts to distort historical facts.”
