Maharashtra: Devendra Fadnavis Confirmed as Chief Minister, BJP Legislature Party Finalizes Decision

The uncertainty surrounding the appointment of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister has ended, with Devendra Fadnavis set to assume the role. Maharashtra BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar announced that the leaders of the Mahayuti alliance will meet Governor CP Radhakrishnan at 3:30 PM on Wednesday to stake their claim to form the government.

The decision was finalized during the BJP Legislature Party meeting on Wednesday, where Fadnavis was unanimously elected as the party leader. Prior to this, the BJP core committee meeting had also reached a consensus on his name. The meeting was attended by central observers, including Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani.

Fadnavis will take his oath as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister on December 5. Following his election as the Legislature Party leader, Fadnavis expressed gratitude to all MLAs, party workers, and the people of Maharashtra for their overwhelming mandate in the assembly elections.

CM Decision Clears Uncertainty After Election Results

The Maharashtra assembly election results, declared on November 23, left the CM’s post undecided for over a week. Despite BJP emerging as the largest party, alliance differences delayed the announcement. While acting CM Eknath Shinde expressed his willingness to accept the BJP leadership’s decision, he also hinted that the people wanted him as CM. Shinde’s sudden visit to his hometown in Satara after meeting Amit Shah in Delhi fueled speculations. However, the BJP Legislature Party has now cleared the path for Fadnavis to become CM.

Fadnavis to Serve as CM for the Third Time

This will be Devendra Fadnavis’s third term as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, with preparations in full swing. Alongside the CM, two Deputy Chief Ministers will also take their oaths. Speculations suggest that NCP leader Ajit Pawar and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde may assume the deputy CM roles.
