Former US President Jimmy Carter’s body coffin arrives at US Capitol, where he will be buried with state honors

On Tuesday morning, the body of former President Jimmy Carter was transported from Dobbins Air Reserve Base to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland via a special plane. From there, a convoy carried his body to Washington, D.C., where it will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol.

Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29 at the age of 100, will be buried with full state honors. His body had been kept at the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta before being moved to Washington. The process of honoring the former President will begin on Tuesday and continue until Thursday, with various members of Congress and dignitaries paying their respects.

A gun salute and military band honored Carter’s arrival in Washington. Similar tributes were given in Atlanta before his body was transported.

During the transport, some members of Congress and three Supreme Court justices accompanied the convoy. President Joe Biden is also expected to pay tribute to Carter.

Notably, during the transportation process, former President Donald Trump criticized Carter for his decision to transfer control of the Panama Canal. When asked about his remarks, Trump stated that while he liked Carter personally, he disagreed with his policies.
