Pakistan: Multiple Blasts Rock Paramilitary Headquarters in Peshawar; Three Soldiers Killed in Deadly Suicide Attack
A major terror attack shook Peshawar, Pakistan, on Monday morning when the Federal Constabulary headquarters came under assault. According to initial reports from Pakistani security agencies, a series of powerful explosions were heard near the compound, leading to immediate panic in the surrounding areas and prompting authorities to evacuate civilians for safety. The attack, believed to be carried out by suicide bombers, resulted in the death of three police personnel, while at least two others sustained injuries.
As reported by Pakistan’s leading news outlet The Dawn, the incident unfolded around 8 a.m. on the Saddar–Kohat Road, a busy route in the city. The attack began when a suicide bomber detonated explosives at the main entrance gate of the headquarters. Moments after the blast, heavy gunfire echoed through the area as security forces responded to the unfolding threat. A second attacker attempted to breach the premises but was swiftly neutralized by alert security personnel before he could cause further destruction.
In the immediate aftermath, security forces cordoned off the entire zone and launched a large-scale rescue and clearing operation to ensure no additional attackers were present. The swift reaction helped prevent more casualties and further damage to the sensitive installation.
Meanwhile, Lady Reading Hospital, the largest government-run medical facility in Peshawar, declared a state of emergency to handle the sudden influx of victims. A hospital spokesperson confirmed that six injured individuals were brought in for treatment and that all are currently reported to be in stable condition.
The Federal Constabulary, previously known as the Frontier Constabulary before being renamed by the Shahbaz Sharif administration earlier this year, is a civilian paramilitary force responsible for maintaining law and order in sensitive regions. Its headquarters, situated in a densely populated part of Peshawar and close to a military cantonment, has always been considered a high-risk location for militant attacks.
This tragic incident comes at a time when Pakistan has witnessed a significant surge in terrorist activities, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. Security experts attribute this rise in violence to the breakdown of peace talks between the Pakistani government and the militant organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The group has intensified its attacks in recent years, targeting security installations, police forces, and public spaces.
As investigations continue, authorities fear the latest Peshawar attack could signal yet another escalation in the country’s already volatile security situation.
