UNGA: Colombian President Calls for Criminal Probe Against Trump
At the United Nations General Assembly, Colombian President Gustavo Petro demanded a criminal investigation into US President Donald Trump and other officials following recent US attacks on boats in the Caribbean. These attacks, which killed multiple people, were claimed by the US to target drug trafficking gangs.
Petro rejected these claims, stating that the passengers were poor Latin American youth and had no links to Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang, as alleged by the Trump administration. He told the UN, “Criminal action should be initiated against those responsible, even if it is the highest-ranking official who gave the order—that is, President Trump.”
The US reported 11 deaths on September 2, three on September 16, and three more in a recent attack, insisting the boats carried drugs. Petro called this justification a lie, asking, “Was it really necessary to bomb unarmed, poor youth?”
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro also criticized the attacks, alleging the US uses drug trafficking as a pretext for military action against his government. So far, the US has not provided evidence of drugs on the targeted boats.
