Ministry of Education to Introduce AI Curriculum from Class 3

In a landmark move, the Ministry of Education has announced the introduction of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) curriculum in all schools starting from Class 3. The initiative aims to make AI education a core universal skill, equipping students to understand and engage with technology that shapes the modern world.

The Department of School Education and Literacy reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Artificial Intelligence and Computational Thinking (AI & CT) as key pillars of a future-ready education system. Working within the framework of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF SE) 2023, the Ministry is collaborating with CBSE, NCERT, KVS, NVS, and other stakeholders to create an inclusive and meaningful AI curriculum.

A high-level consultation was held on October 29, 2025, with leading education bodies and AI experts. To guide this process, the CBSE has formed an expert committee headed by Prof. Karthik Raman of IIT Madras, tasked with developing a structured AI & CT curriculum for schools.

Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, stated that AI learning should be treated as a foundational skill, essential for every child. He emphasized that the curriculum will be comprehensive, inclusive, and adaptable to evolving educational needs. Teacher training and digital resources, including NISHTHA modules and video-based materials, will support the effective rollout of this program.

Highlighting the broader vision, the Ministry noted that the AI curriculum will advance the concept of ‘AI for Public Good’, encouraging students to use AI ethically to address real-world challenges. Collaboration between NCERT and CBSE, under the NCF SE framework, will ensure quality, structure, and alignment across schools.

Ministry of Education: Joint Secretary (IT) Prachi Pandey concluded the consultation by underscoring the importance of timely curriculum development and implementation, reinforcing the Ministry’s mission to prepare students for a tech-driven future.
