PAK vs BAN: Pakistan’s Journey Ends in Champions Trophy 2025 Without a Single Win

Pakistan’s campaign in the Champions Trophy 2025 came to a disappointing end as the defending champions failed to secure a single victory, finishing at the bottom of Group A. Bangladesh secured the third position with one point and a net run rate of -0.44, while Pakistan ended fourth with a net run rate of -1.09.

Rain Cancels PAK vs BAN Clash, Ending Pakistan’s Journey

The final Group A match between Pakistan and Bangladesh in Rawalpindi was washed out due to rain, preventing even the toss from taking place. With this, both teams were awarded one point each, officially eliminating Pakistan from the tournament. Having lost to both New Zealand and India, the hosts finished at the bottom of Group A. Meanwhile, Bangladesh finished third with the same number of points but a slightly better net run rate. India and New Zealand advanced to the semi-finals from this group.

Pakistan Struggled Against New Zealand & India

Pakistan’s first match in the tournament was against New Zealand, where the Kiwis dominated, posting 320 runs, thanks to centuries from Will Young and Tom Latham. Pakistan failed to chase down the target and suffered a heavy defeat.

In the second match against India, Pakistan opted to bat first after winning the toss. Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq provided a solid start, but the middle order collapsed, restricting the team to just 241 runs. India, led by Virat Kohli, comfortably chased the target in 43.2 overs, handing Pakistan another defeat. With New Zealand later defeating Bangladesh, Pakistan’s slim hopes of qualification were completely crushed.

Pakistan Creates an Unwanted Record

Pakistan also set several unwanted records in this tournament:

  • First host nation since South Africa in 2009 to be eliminated in the group stage.
  • Fourth defending champion to crash out in the group stage, following India and Sri Lanka (2004) and Australia (2013).

With this poor performance, Pakistan exits the Champions Trophy 2025 without a single victory, marking one of their most disappointing campaigns in tournament history.
