Pakistan: Egg Attack on Imran Khan’s Sister Aleema Sparks Political Row
Pakistan’s political scene heated up after an egg was thrown at former PM Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The video of the incident quickly went viral, showing Aleema being hit while speaking to journalists.
PTI supporters caught two women allegedly involved and handed them to police. However, Rawalpindi Police stated the women were PTI supporters protesting with the All-Government Employees Grand Alliance. Police claimed the egg was thrown after Aleema avoided answering questions.
PTI dismissed this version, calling the attack a “political conspiracy” and accusing authorities of facilitating the act. The party condemned it as “shameful” and “planned.”
The incident has drawn widespread reactions. BNP leader Akhtar Mengal said, “Women should be respected even in enmity. This is the worst form of politics.” Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal stressed that politics should be about ideas, not hatred or violence, while PML-N’s Saad Rafiq called the act “disgusting and reprehensible.”
