India Slams Pakistan at UN Over Indus Water Treaty Violations and Terrorism

India strongly countered Pakistan’s propaganda on the Indus Water Treaty at the United Nations, accusing it of repeatedly violating the treaty’s spirit by waging wars and supporting terrorism.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, P. Harish, stated that Pakistan has already breached the treaty’s foundational values by initiating three wars against India and being responsible for thousands of terrorist attacks over the past decades.

“More than 20,000 Indian citizens have lost their lives in terrorist attacks over the last 40 years. The recent attack in Pahalgam, where innocent tourists were targeted, is just the latest. Despite this, India has acted with restraint,” said Harish.

During a UN Security Council meeting on water security in conflict zones, Pakistan made baseless and misleading allegations against India regarding the Indus Water Treaty. Responding firmly, India reiterated that the treaty was signed 65 years ago in good faith and spirit of cooperation, which Pakistan has consistently violated through acts of aggression and terrorism.

Harish further pointed out that Pakistan has obstructed progress in dam construction, opposing modern updates despite these being in compliance with the treaty. This resistance undermines dam safety and development, especially when evolving technologies could improve water infrastructure.

India has also made repeated appeals to revise the treaty, but Pakistan has rejected them every time, refusing to adapt to new realities or foster constructive dialogue.

“Pakistan continues to use cross-border terrorism as a tool to destabilize India, threaten civilians, and disrupt religious harmony and economic growth,” Harish said. “Its refusal to engage meaningfully on the treaty, while supporting terrorism, leaves India no choice.”

In response to the continued support for terrorism and refusal to cooperate, India has decided to suspend the Indus Water Treaty until Pakistan ceases cross-border hostilities.

India made it clear: the violation of the treaty’s spirit lies with Pakistan—through its actions on the battlefield, and through its support of terrorism that continues to claim innocent lives.
