Suicide: Atul Subhash’s Heartbreaking Last Conversations
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Bangalore-based AI engineer Atul Subhash reached out to his father and brother via phone before taking his own life. His last words to his family are a poignant reminder of his struggles.
Atul spoke with his father for over an hour on Sunday evening, discussing family matters and the well-being of each other. When asked about his own condition, he assured his father that everything was fine. Just three hours earlier, he had told his brother to always stay happy, leaving them unaware of the tragic decision he would soon make.
Vikas, Atul’s younger brother, expressed his sorrow, stating that Atul had always been truthful and that his death revealed systemic issues surrounding relationships and marriage. He referenced Atul’s suicide note and accompanying video, which conveyed his thoughts and feelings.
The family mourns the loss of a brother who longed to see his young son. Vikas mentioned that Atul frequently made video calls to connect with him, yet felt increasingly distanced. He even shared a letter Atul wrote to the Supreme Court regarding his circumstances.
In his suicide note, Atul expressed deep frustrations about his relationship with his wife and her family, accusing them of exploiting him financially and denying him access to his son. “The money I earn is strengthening my enemies; it is better that I am not alive,” he wrote. He lamented that his hard work only led to more harassment from his wife’s family and claimed the legal system was complicit in this mistreatment.
Atul recounted a distressing conversation with his mother-in-law, who seemingly dismissed his struggles and suggested that his father would cover any financial losses after his death.
Before taking his life, Atul shared a video link on social media, tagging notable figures like Elon Musk and former US President Donald Trump, urging them to pay attention to the plight of men facing similar issues in India. “A legal genocide of men is happening in India,” he stated, emphasizing the need for change and the protection of freedom of expression.
This tragic story serves as a stark reminder of the mental health struggles individuals may face and the importance of having open conversations to support those in need.
