Speculation is rife about the CM candidate, with debates intensifying between the MVA and the Mahayuti alliance. However, a senior BJP leader hinted on Saturday that Devendra Fadnavis is the leading contender for the post. The leader stated that the new Mahayuti government will be sworn in on December 5, and Fadnavis is the frontrunner in the race for Chief Minister.

Mahayuti’s Strong Victory

In the November 20 assembly elections, the Mahayuti alliance emerged victorious with 230 seats. The BJP led the alliance with 132 seats, followed by Shiv Sena with 57 seats and NCP with 41 seats. Despite this clear mandate, no consensus has been reached regarding the Chief Minister, even after the election results were declared on November 23.

Crucial Meetings Underway

Late on Thursday night, Shinde, Fadnavis, and Pawar met BJP President JP Nadda and Union Minister Amit Shah to discuss the government formation. An important meeting scheduled for Friday was postponed due to acting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s visit to his native village in Satara. This meeting is now likely to take place on Sunday.

Fadnavis Leads the Race for CM

According to a senior BJP leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the swearing-in ceremony for the new government is scheduled for December 5. The leader confirmed that Devendra Fadnavis is the top choice for the Chief Minister’s post. However, there is no official confirmation yet on when the BJP Legislature Party will convene to finalize its leader.

Eknath Shinde has expressed his full support for the BJP’s decision regarding the next Chief Minister and assured that he will not pose any hurdles. Additionally, Ajit Pawar’s NCP has also extended its backing to Fadnavis for the CM role.

The political scenario in Maharashtra remains dynamic, with the state’s residents eagerly awaiting the final announcement on their new Chief Minister.

The delay in forming the new government in Maharashtra by the Mahayuti alliance has sparked numerous questions. Amid this, the Eknath Shinde faction has demanded that the Shiv Sena be given charge of the crucial Home Department. Both Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis remain firm in their claims over the Home Department, which is currently held by Fadnavis in the acting government.Shinde and Fadnavis returned to Mumbai from Delhi separately on Friday morning, with their planes landing at different times. On Thursday night, NCP leader Ajit Pawar, Shinde, and Fadnavis met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the formation of the Maharashtra government. Following this meeting, acting Chief Minister Shinde left for his native village in Satara.

Shiv Sena Pushes for Home Department

On Saturday, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat asserted the party’s claim to the Home Department in the upcoming Maharashtra government. He emphasized that Shiv Sena should be entrusted with this significant portfolio, adding to the growing tension within the alliance.
