1. Spread of Human Metapneumovirus in India: The first case of HMPV in India was reported in Bangalore, Karnataka. As of June 10, a total of 13 cases have been confirmed across the country.
2. States Reporting HMPV Cases:
- Karnataka: The initial cases were found in Bangalore, involving a three-month-old girl and an eight-month-old boy. Both children showed symptoms of bronchopneumonia, including cold, chest tightness, and fever.
- Gujarat: Four cases have been reported, with three in Ahmedabad. The infected individuals include newborns and an 80-year-old man. Symptoms ranged from cold and fever to breathing difficulties.
- Assam: A 10-month-old child in Dibrugarh has been confirmed with HMPV. The child is currently stable and under treatment at Assam Medical College and Hospital.
- Maharashtra: Three cases have been found, including a seven-year-old and a 13-year-old in Nagpur, and a six-month-old in Mumbai. Symptoms included cold, fever, and low oxygen levels.
- Tamil Nadu: Two cases were reported, involving a 45-year-old man in Chennai and a 69-year-old man in Salem with pre-existing conditions. Both patients are stable.
- Rajasthan: Two cases have been reported in Dungarpur and Baran districts involving children.
