The Israeli military has announced plans to dismiss Air Force reserve soldiers who signed a public letter criticizing the ongoing war in Gaza. These reservists, in the letter, accused the Israeli leadership of prolonging the conflict for political gain rather than focusing on securing the release of hostages. Although the military did not disclose the exact number of signatories, media reports suggest that approximately 1,000 reservists and retirees endorsed the letter.

According to military sources, the decision stems from concerns over trust and discipline within the ranks. An Israeli army officer stated that anyone using their military status to engage in political dissent while on duty breaches the trust between commanders and subordinates. As a result, those who signed the letter will no longer be allowed to serve in the reserves.

The controversial letter, which was made public on Thursday, called for an immediate ceasefire and the swift return of hostages held by Hamas. While the signatories did not indicate they would refuse service, the move is seen as a growing sign of dissent within Israeli ranks over the prolonged 18-month conflict.

This development comes as Israel intensifies its military operations in Gaza, exerting pressure on Hamas to release hostages. The Israeli government has blocked humanitarian aid, food, and fuel to the region, worsening the humanitarian crisis. Reports indicate that 59 hostages remain in Hamas custody, with more than half feared dead.

The letter was organized by retired Israeli Air Force pilot Guy Poran, who criticized the Israeli government’s approach, calling it “illogical and irresponsible” for endangering the lives of hostages, soldiers, and Palestinian civilians. Poran declined to confirm whether any signatories had already been dismissed but noted that dozens more have joined since the letter’s release.
